Hosting Artist: Pan
As a “Son of a calligrapher,” Pan Jianfeng has been working as a visual artist for the past 17 years in Shanghai, China. He rediscovered the house of ink in the old town of Porvoo, Finland, in 2015. His self-exile to Finland from Shanghai can be seen as a home-returning journey rooted in everyday self-cultivation.
His contemporary art practice emphasizes calligraphy as a living art form and a medium for intercultural exchange—an intermediary language to bridge the gap between our mind and body, the West and East, in the modern world.
He has exhibited his work internationally for over twenty years in many major museums across East Asia and Europe. The recent solo show at the Museum of East Asian Art in Cologne was supported by the Peter and Irene Ludwig Foundation, and he was named “Artist of the Year 2025” by the AKTIA Foundation in Finland.

HOUSE of INK

The workshop venue is located in the center of old town Porvoo, the second oldest town in Finland, a living wooden architecture museum. It’s only one hour by bus from Helsinki, twenty minutes by taxi from Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
After ten years of continuing renovation by the artist family, the venue has been nourished into a multifunctional space for mindful art practices. It is a space where Finnish authentic lifestyle meets the East Asian aesthetics.
